AegisAI, a new email security company, announced on Thursday that it has secured $36 million in Series A funding. This investment will be used to enhance its AI-driven email security platform and broaden its go-to-market strategy. Founded in 2025 by Cy Khormaee and Ryan Luo, both previously with Google’s security team (where they worked on reCAPTCHA, Safe Browsing, and Web Risk), AegisAI’s platform is built around a network of AI agents that evaluate email content and intent, rather than relying on traditional rule-based systems. The system connects to Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace through APIs, requiring no changes to existing MX records. A key component of the platform is Vanguard, a companion agent that investigates suspicious links and attachments by navigating them as a human recipient would, generating a threat report within minutes. AegisAI emphasizes that the most significant risk to organizations isn't a security system being hacked, but rather an AI model manipulating an employee into divulging sensitive information through a personalized phishing attack. The company’s approach is designed to address the evolving threat landscape where attackers are leveraging AI to craft highly targeted and convincing lures.
