Zelensky appoints former police chief to lead Ukraine’s cyber coordination center
Volodymyr Zelensky has appointed Ihor Klymenko, a former police chief and law enforcement official, to lead Ukraine’s National Cybersecurity Coordination Center. Volodymyr Zelensky has appointed Ihor Klymenko, a former police chief and law enforcement official, to lead Ukraine’s National Cybersecurity Coordination Center (NCCC). This appointment is part of a wider restructuring of Ukraine’s security and law enforcement leadership, intended to bolster the country’s defenses against cyberattacks, particularly those originating from Russia and criminal networks. The NCCC operates under Ukraine’s National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) and brings together various government agencies involved in cybersecurity efforts.
Klymenko’s previous roles within law enforcement, including heading Ukraine’s National Police and serving as interior minister, have provided him with experience in combating cybercrime and responding to security threats. He was also considered for the role of defense minister following the dismissal of Mykhailo Fedorov.
This appointment follows a series of changes within Ukraine’s security apparatus, including the dismissal of Prosecutor General Ruslan Kravchenko due to allegations of bribery related to scam call centers. The changes reflect Ukraine’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its national security and counter hybrid warfare tactics.
