Water utilities group partners with DEF CON offshoot for Water Watch Center

The National Rural Water Association (NRWA) has partnered with DEF CON Franklin to establish the Water Watch Center (WWC), a program designed to provide cybersecurity services to underfunded water and wastewater systems across the U.S. This initiative addresses a growing need for cybersecurity support, particularly in light of recent attacks targeting water utilities in multiple states, allegedly linked to Iranian hackers. The WWC will leverage volunteer cybersecurity experts and managed detection and response providers to bolster defenses and create digital replicas of system environments for testing.
