A lone attacker successfully breached a large Amazon Web Services (AWS) environment in 72 hours using AI to accelerate reconnaissance, tool development, and command structure, ultimately extorting a global enterprise. The attacker exploited a chain of cloud weaknesses and stolen credentials, performing actions like secrets theft, backdoor creation, and data exfiltration to demonstrate their capabilities and pressure the victim into paying a ransom. Researchers highlighted the need for organizations to drastically reduce MTTD and MTTR by adopting automated defenses and SOAR solutions to keep pace with AI-powered attacks.
