Nordic CISOs Handle Rising Cyber Threats Remarkably Well
A recent report by Truesec found that CISOs in Nordic countries are not experiencing a rise in severe cybersecurity incidents, despite a global increase in cyber threats. This surprising trend is attributed to improved cybersecurity defenses, including increased use of managed detection and response (MDR) services and better attack surface management. While lower-severity incidents are rising, the stabilization of severe incidents suggests security teams are better at detection and containment, potentially aided by AI's impact on less critical attacks and a decline in ransomware.
The Truesec biennial report, based on interviews with CISOs in Nordic countries, revealed a notable anomaly: a lack of increased severe cybersecurity incidents compared to previous years. Despite a global surge in cyber threat volume and sophistication, Nordic organizations reported consistently stable levels of serious attacks. This resilience is largely attributed to proactive security measures, including the adoption of managed detection and response (MDR) services, which enable rapid identification and mitigation of threats. Furthermore, improvements in attack surface management practices contribute to a more secure environment. The report highlights that many severe incidents are not due to attacks, but rather stemming from issues like improper security patching, which MDR services are designed to address.
