White House Launches AI-Driven ‘Gold Eagle’ Vulnerability Coordination Initiative
The White House has launched Gold Eagle, a new initiative designed to streamline vulnerability detection and remediation across government and industry. This program leverages AI, specifically Anthropic's Mythos, to proactively scan for vulnerabilities and coordinate with private sector partners to rapidly address security weaknesses in critical infrastructure.
The White House announced the creation of Gold Eagle, a new initiative focused on accelerating the identification, prioritization, and patching of vulnerabilities within critical infrastructure. This program aims to reduce redundant vulnerability scanning efforts across various agencies and companies, fostering a more efficient and coordinated approach to cybersecurity. Gold Eagle is built upon Executive Order 14409, ‘Promoting Advanced Artificial Intelligence Innovation and Security’, signed by President Trump in June. The order mandated the establishment of an AI-enabled clearinghouse to address software vulnerabilities, and Gold Eagle is now positioned as the operational framework for achieving this goal.
The program involves collaboration between CISA, the Treasury Department, and the Department of War, alongside private-sector partners. Initial reports indicate that Gold Eagle is already receiving and triaging vulnerability reports from diverse industries and sectors, while simultaneously verifying scan results. Notably, the initiative follows the lifting of restrictions on Anthropic’s AI models, with CISA reportedly utilizing Mythos for government software vulnerability scanning. This development is linked to broader cybersecurity considerations and a strategic shift in how the government approaches contractor cybersecurity through the CMMC program.
