Dutch Police Arrest ‘Reformed’ Hacker in Shiny Hunters Investigation

Dutch authorities have arrested a 24-year-old man, Pepijn van der Stap, a reformed hacker previously known as ‘Umbreon,’ in connection with the ShinyHunters hacking group. Van der Stap, who previously worked as a software engineer and volunteer at a Dutch security research group, admitted to data theft and extortion activities, including exploiting a PeopleSoft vulnerability to steal data from the FBI’s job application site and the Russian ransomware group Cl0p. The group’s actions are now being linked to a potential attempt to commit murders overseas.
